Commiserations to Arthur on missing the opportunity to take the 1ST Kyu grading due to injury. Sensei Bell congratulated everyone on their achievements and also highlighted that there is likely be another Kyu and Dan grading before the year end. Anyone wishing to try for their next belt is reminded that only students training syllabus on a regular basis will be permitted to grade.

WIKF AUTUMN COURSE & GRADING

As announced on the official WIKF site, there will be a two day training course with Kyu and Dan grading in September. The special guest will be Sensei Jon Wicks 8TH Dan, the WIKF chief instructor and the late Professor Tatsuo Suzuki’s principal student. This is an open event for all karateka, but anyone wishing to grade will need a valid WIKF passport.

VENUE: St Patrick’s Hall, Newtownards

DAY1: Saturday, 17-SEP-2011
12:00 to 13:30 – Private Dan grade class
14:00 to 15:15 – Black/Brown belt training
15-15 to 16:45 – All grades training

DAY2: Sunday, 18-SEP-2011
13:00 to 14:30 – All grades training
15:00 onwards – Dan and Kyu grading

Regular Kiryoku training classes for both dates will not be taking place.

MASTER TATSUO SUZUKI LEADERS COURSE

As announced on the official WIKF site, the annual summer course for senior Karateka will take place next month. These courses are only open to 2nd Dan and above and the aim is to unite our technique and safeguard the authentic Wado as taught by our founder.

Venue: Harris CTC College, London
Day 1: Sat, 11-Jun 13:00 to 17:30
Day 2: Sun, 12-Jun 10:00 to 14:30

As Sensei Bell will be attending this course, regular club training that weekend will be cancelled.

OPEN KARATE WINTER COURSE

As announced on the WIKF site, Sensei Suzuki (8TH Dan) will be holding his annual winter training course later this month. This is an open event for all styles and grades. Full details and registrations forms for this 3 day event are available here.

Venue: Guildford Spectrum Leisure Complex
Day 1: Fri, 25-Feb – 18:00 to 21:00
Day 2: Sat, 26-Feb – 10:00 to 13:00
Day 3: Sun, 27-Feb – 10:00 to 13:00

Following the last day of training, there will also be a Dan grading session for qualifying WIKF federation members.

WIKF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2008

The 5th WIKF World Championships will take place in Braga, Portugal at the end of July. This is a major event in the Wado Ryu calendar and will be attended by more than 500 karateka representing 24 countries. Preceding the competition there will also be a three day special training course with Sensei Tatsuo Suzuki.

Training: Mon, 21-Jul to Wed, 23-Jul
Competition: Fri, 25-Jul to Sun, 27-Jul

OPEN KARATE SUMMER COURSE 2008

As announced on the wikf.com events page, Sensei Suzuki will be holding the annual Open Karate Summer Training Course in August. As the name implies this event is open to WIKF and non-WIKF members alike. As well as three days valuable training sessions, Dan grading examinations will also be held. Any Kiryoku members wishing to attend should inform Sensei Bell as soon as possible.

WIKF LEADERS COURSE 2008 ANNOUNCED

As announced on the wikf.com events page, the WIKF leaders course is the most important course instructors can attend this year. These courses are only open to 4th Dan and above (or 3rd Dan students training for 4th Dan). The aim is to unite our technique, safeguarding the authentic Wado as taught by our founder. Sensei Colin Bell has been invited to attend, so there will be no training on Sat 21st and Sun 22nd.

KUMITE TRAINING & KYU GRADING COURSE

More details of the annual kumite training and kyu grading course have been announced. The main instructor will be former European & World Wado Karate Kumite Champion Nieman Prince. Similar to last year’s format, the more traditional elements of karate will also be blended into the course. Other instructors include Michael Cole (6th Dan), Bobby Hamilton (5th Dan) Mark Mawhinney (3rd Dan) and Hugh Johnston (3rd Dan). Sensei Michael Cole will also be teaching Tanto Dori (knife defence) during a 1 hour slot on Saturday. Weather permitting, there will be outdoor training. Details as follows:

Training Day2: Sat, 07-Jun 11:00 to 15:30

Kyu Grading: Sat, 07-Jun 15:30 onwards

Please note – only WIKF students who have been training regularly with their instructor over the past year and who have a fully paid-up NI-WIKF licence will be permitted to take a grading examination.

KATA SQUAD TRAINING ANNOUNCED

For all kata contestants travelling to the World WIKF Championships in Portugal, the following kata squad training sessions will be held at Bangor Leisure Centre under the instruction of Sensei Hamilton:

Sunday 18-May 14:00 – 16:00
Sunday 15-Jun 14:00 – 16:00
Sunday 06-Jul 14:00 – 16:00

Entry is charged at £5 per person. Compulsory kata from all categories will be studied across the three sessions as well as free choice kata.
